We got a chance to learn about three new programs serving immigrants in Long Island and the greater NYC area. Below is a general description of their services with information on how to contact them:
Sepa Mujer: is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to raise and unite Latina voices so that they are heard and recognized in social, governmental and political systems. Sepa Mujer offers courses in Spanish on basic legal rights and leadership. Topics have included domestic violence, protective orders and divorces, starting a business, buying a home, nutrition, immigration, access to medical care and education of children.
Project Hope: provides confidential supportive counseling to help individuals dealing with Hurricane Sandy. LifeNet is a 24/7 confidential referral hotline network matching Hurricane Sandy survivors with a Project Hope provider agency in their community. The hotline number 1-800-lifenet.
Adelante of Suffolk County, Inc: provides vocational day programs with individuals facing mental health issues. Additionally, Adelante’s services include guidance and access resource guides in DSS, medicare/Medicaid, social security, domestic violence, after school programs and youth programs.
