The New York Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NYSPCC), established in 1875 as the first child protection agency in the world, responds to the complex needs of abused and neglected chidren, and those involved in their care, by providing best practice counseling, legal, and educational services.
The NYSPCC's Positive Parenting Plus Program is a therapeutic supervised visitation program for parents, who, for reasons of domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, mental illness, or substance abuse, can only visit their children in a clinically supervised setting. This program keeps children safe while promoting healthy parenting, and serves all boroughs of NYC.
The NYSPCC's Sentencing Alternatives for Family Education (SAFE) program, offered in conjunction with the Kings County District Attorney's Offices, is a multi-day child safety training program offered as an alternative to criminal conviction for parents charged with "endanering the welfare of a child", due to leaving their child unattended either in a car or at home.
In addition to these and other programs, The NYSPCC advocates for legislative and judicial action that protects children and strengthens families, and is frequently requested to train other professionals on The NYSPCC's best practice service models.
