A holdover eviction is when you paid your rent, but the landlord is trying to make you leave for other reasons. Here are some of the reasons for a holdover case:
- your lease ended,
- someone complained you're too noisy,
- the person living with you didn't tell the landlord,
- you made changes to the place without permission,
- or other problems.
If your landlord is only trying to get unpaid rent from you, that is not a holdover case; it is a "nonpayment case." The guide below is for holdover cases only.
The guide has sample forms and information on getting help. It can help you:
- understand the legal process, and
- try to stop the eviction.
