A families social status, and standing in the community are one of the factors that determine whether or not a child being bullied will be able to receive the care and attention needed to resolve the issues that being bullied created. Parents living in impoverished communities are not adequately adept at solving these issues, because of a language barrier, or time constraints. This lack of communication prevents parents from being able to detect signs that show that their child is being bullied, or make school faculty aware of bullying issues. This is why organizations such as the Utterly Global Youth Empowerment are important to many communities. This organization develops anti- bullying programs for students, parents, and school faculty in order to prevent and resolve bullying issues in the tri-state area. You can find more information at http://antibullyingprograms.org/About-Us.html. Bullying has had several negative effects on our youth today. It has been linked to several psychological disorders such as depression, suicidal thoughts, and has been the cause of several violent actions in our schools. Rates of bullying have decreased since 1998, but rates of physical fighting have remained the same since 2006. Victims of bullying have been shown to be more likely to carry weapons on them. The two most common weapons brought to schools were knives and guns. There are a range of factors such as physique, social status, and culture that determine which adolescent will become a victim of bullying. Yet, all of these factors are tied to the adolescent’s social background.
