Thousands of New Yorkers – approximately one in five – are missing out on up to $10,000 in tax credits, like the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Care Tax Credit. These credits are some of the most effective tools we have to fight poverty.
With two weeks left this tax season, there is still time for New Yorkers to file their taxes for free at over 200 sites across the five boroughs.
DCA offers two ways for New Yorkers to file their taxes safely and for free:
In Person: Annual incomes of $53,000 or less (with children) or $18,000 or less (no children). Visit a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) site in your neighborhood. VITA site preparers are IRS-trained and certified to help you file your taxes and claim credits like the Earned Income Tax Credit and NYC Child Care Tax Credit, which may be worth up to $10,000. Trained staff at these sites protects your documents and uses a secure website to share them for tax preparation.

Online: Annual income of $60,000 or less. Go to nyc.gov/taxprep. The online service is easy and secure. Use a secure computer to protect your privacy.
