Who We Are
The goal of the Consumer and Economic Advocacy Program is to empower underrepresented consumers to assert their rights in the marketplace and financially prosper. We provide legal assistance, including advice, advocacy and litigation services, to homeowners facing foreclosure and/or victimized by predatory lending practices.
Our team provides clients with advice, counsel, and referrals; helps pro se homeowners prepare answers and discovery demands; represents homeowners at settlement conferences and in motion practice relating to settlement conferences; negotiates loan modifications; defends homeowners in wrongful foreclosures; and commences affirmative litigation challenging predatory lending practices, mortgage fraud, and housing discrimination.
Through the Kings County Foreclosure Defense Bar we are also collaborating with other public interest law groups and the private bar to increase the number of practitioners who see consumer fraud as a viable area of practice. Our goal is to increase the number of attorneys available to residents in targeted neighborhoods. Brooklyn A also partners with community-based organizations, such as Bridge Street Development Corporation, to educate residents about detecting fraud and obtaining redress.
