Who We Are
The New York State Court system has established the Volunteer Lawyers Program as a free service designed to ensure that these litigants have access to competent legal advice to guide them as they represent themselves.
Under the supervision of court staff, volunteer attorneys spend full days or parts of days in a courthouse, and are available to provide legal advice and assistance to unrepresented owners and tenants in the Housing Court's Help Center.
Volunteer lawyers meet with unrepresented litigants on a walk-in basis. This is an advice-only program. Volunteer lawyers do not provide direct representation in court or file papers on the litigant's behalf.
