Who We Are

Open Hands Legal Services serves homeless and low-income New Yorkers by providing free legal advice, counsel and representation. We focus primarily on housing law, employment law, reentry and child support matters. Open Hands address the needs of the low income through volunteer attorneys by setting up a free legal aid desk at existing community-based organizations such as soup kitchens and community centers.

Open Hands Legal Services currently operates on the second Saturday of each month at The Father’s Heart Ministries, located in Manhattan’s lower east side and on the third Saturday of each month at The Relief Bus in East Harlem.

We also have mobile legal aid desks at the All Angels' Episcopal Church; Bowery Mission Men's Center on Bowery and the Bowery Mission Men's Center on 115th street; the Bowery Mission Women's Center (for residents only); The New York City Rescue Mission (by appointment only); Exodus Transitional Community Center; Partnership for the Homeless; and the Relief Bus.
