Who We Are
The Steuben County Office for the Aging has been designated by the State of New York to plan and coordinate services to meet the needs of our county's older residents. We do this by working to improve access to services that will assist our older citizens to age in place and by striving to expand the range of services available.
Legal assistance is available for a variety of needs, including
- Power of Attorney
- property deed changes
- landlord/tenant issues
We provide referrals for matters pertaining to divorce, criminal cases, negligence actions, and guardianship.
Our mission is to enable persons aged sixty and older to continue living independently in a safe environment. We also assist those under age sixty who receive SSD or SSI. Services provided include: Medicare insurance counseling; benefits access for HEAP, SNAP, and Medicaid; emergency utility payments through Project SHARE and other funding sources; home accessibility and home repair grant application assistance.
Our NYConnects department provides long term care options counseling regardless of age to those in need of assistance with such activities as eating, bathing, medication reminders, housework, laundry, shopping, errands and paying bills. Information on personal emergency response units, home delivered meals and transportation options is also available.
We also have resources for caregivers.
