If you have refugee status or got asylum in the past 2 years, here is how to bring your spouse to the U.S.:
- Fill out Form I-730, Refugee/Asylee Relative Petition.
- Prove that you are a refugee or have asylum.
- Provide a recent, clear photo of your spouse.
- Include a copy of your marriage certificate.
- If either of you were married before, include copies of divorce decrees, death certificates, or annulment decrees.
- If either of you legally changed your name, show evidence.
When you are granted asylum or admitted as a refugee, you have two years to file the form. In some cases, you can get an extension.
If your spouse is outside the U.S., they will go to their local U.S. consulate to finish the process. If they are already in the U.S., you get an approval notice from the government.
