If you have a permanent disability in New York State, you can get special parking permits or license plates that let you park in reserved spaces.
To get a permit, you and your doctor need to fill out a form or you need to get a doctor's note describing your disability. Take this to your local city, town, or village clerk's office to get a free permit.
For license plates, bring your proof of disability, current plates, and ID to a DMV office. You will have to pay a fee. ($28.75 in 2025.)
These plates and permits work in New York and most other states.
